Measurement Method

• Before using the blood pressure monitor, check it first. For a normally usable blood pressure monitor, the dial usually points to the “0” position. After pressurization, it responds flexibly and can still return to the “0” position.
• Ask the person being measured to sit beside the table and gently place the left arm on the table in a comfortable position.
• Adjust the arm to be at the same height as the heart. If the height is insufficient, add a soft cushion under the arm.
• Flatten the arm cuff so that the middle of the air – filled part is facing the brachial artery. The lower edge of the arm cuff should reach 2 – 3 cm above the elbow crease. Fasten it to the upper arm, neither too tight nor too loose. Generally, two fingers should be able to fit under the cuff to avoid affecting accuracy.
• Insert the stethoscope head into the arm cuff and place it on the brachial artery at the elbow.
• Use the latex ball to slowly inflate the arm cuff while listening carefully. When the brachial artery pulsation disappears, increase the pressure by 2.5kPa – 4kPa (20mmHg – 30mmHg) and then stop inflating.
• After stopping pressurization, slowly release the air in the arm cuff at a rate of 0.3kPa – 0.6kPa (2mmHg – 4mmHg) per second, causing the pointer of the blood pressure monitor to gradually drop.
• The pressure value indicated by the pointer when the first pulsation sound is heard through the stethoscope during the descent is the systolic pressure.
• When the pulsation sound gradually strengthens and then turns into a murmur, and then the pitch suddenly becomes dull and gradually disappears. When no sound is heard, it is the diastolic pressure.
• When measuring blood pressure, generally repeat the measurement 2 – 3 times and take the average of the readings as the blood pressure value.
• There is a metal hook on the back of the blood pressure monitor case. During use, it can be hung on the arm cuff for more convenient reading.
• The arm cuff of the blood pressure monitor has a nylon buckle, which is convenient for fastening.

Precautions for Blood Pressure Measurement

Measure blood pressure in a quiet environment. Since human blood pressure changes throughout the day, it is advisable to measure at the same time every day. The person being measured should be in a relaxed state, keep quiet, and it is best not to talk or move. Loose – fitting clothes are recommended.
